Dr. M.M. Zameer
Consultant Pediatric Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeon
We at Narayana Health operated a small baby with PUJ Obstruction (Kidney obstruction) yesterday with a crossing vessel. We performed the surgery with the new Da Vinci Robot (Gen X). The clarity of vision and the ease of operation made a complex surgery especially PUJO with a crossing vessel, a walk in the park. We completed the surgery in no time and the child was running about in the evening in the ward.
Change is the new norm. Innovations are coming up every day in every field and medical field isn’t spared. The robotic surgery has made complex reconstructive surgeries possible with minimally invasive approach (no longer any large incisions are needed). And now with the next generation robot (smaller ports, all 8 mm ), even smaller babies can enjoy the benefits of the same.
Pediatric robotic surgery is coming up in a big way. It has a few limitations like cost, not possible in very small babies. But in all other cases, it is definitely an option and very helpful for a good surgery and early recovery of the children.
